공식적·의학적인 표현으로, 아기에게 젖을 먹인다는 'breastfeed'와는 다릅니다. 주로 'lactating woman'처럼 ‘젖이 도는 여성’을 지칭할 때 쓰입니다. 남성에게는 거의 사용하지 않습니다.
