각도에 따라 무지갯빛처럼 여러 색상이 변하는 모습을 말합니다. 예를 들어 비눗방울이나 공작 깃털처럼 빛나는 물체를 설명할 때 사용합니다.

주로 문학적, 묘사적 표현에 쓰입니다. 'iridescent'는 빛의 각도에 따라 색이 변화하는 것을 뜻해 단순히 '빛나는(shiny)' 것과는 다릅니다.
