誰かや何かがいるかどうか、またはどこにあるかを丁寧に尋ねること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

フォーマルまたは昔ながらの場面で使われます。「受付で担当者がいるか尋ねる」など、訪問先での問い合わせが典型例です。「inquire about」とはニュアンスが異なります。
