এটি কিছুটা শালীন বা শিল্পের প্রসঙ্গে ব্যবহার হয়, যেমন 'in the nude' মানে শুধুমাত্র শরীরের স্বাভাবিকতা বোঝায়, বিরক্তিকর নয়। 'painted in the nude' বলতে বোঝায় শিল্পী শরীরিকে নগ্ন অবস্থায় এঁকেছেন।
