何かを説明したり飾ったりするための絵や画像。考えや概念を説明する例として使われることもあります。

「イラスト」は本や雑誌、図鑑などでよく見られます。比喩的に例示する時は「例」として使います。'book illustration'は「本の挿絵」の意味です。
