指非常愚蠢、很傻，或做出不合理事情的人。这个词通常带有侮辱性，不过朋友之间有时也会开玩笑地使用。

在很多语境里，这个词语气很重、很不礼貌，所以用来指真实的人时要小心。常见搭配有 'an idiot'、'you idiot' 和 'only idiots would...'. 不用于正式写作。它过去也曾是医学标签，但这种用法现在已经过时且具有冒犯性。
