Definition

ヒエログリフは、特に古代エジプトで使われた、絵や記号で表現する文字体系です。図や記号を用いた他の書き方にも使われます。

普通はエジプトの象形文字を指しますが、他の記号式の文字にも使うことがあります。比喩的に「読みにくい字」にも用います。日常会話より歴史・考古分野でよく使われます。
