短い柄がついた小さい斧で、片手で持って木を切ったり薪割りに使う道具です。

英語の‘hatchet’は一人で使える小型の斧に使います。『bury the hatchet』は「仲直りする」という意味の慣用句です。「axe」は両手で使うもっと大きな斧なので混同しないようにしましょう。
