Definition

釣りの際にエサとして使うハエの幼虫を指します。昔は、上品な人々を意味する言葉としても使われていましたが、今ではほとんど使われません。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

現代では釣り餌としての意味が一般的です。「gentle」で「優しい」という意味は含みません。文学的な使い方は古めかしい表現です。
