突然や苦しそうに息を吸うこと。主に疲れたときや怖いとき、空気が足りないときに使います。

普通の呼吸ではなく、激しい運動や驚いたときに使う表現です。“運動後に息を切らして”など原因を示す言葉とよく使います。
