先祖祖先

Definition

家系の中で昔生きていた人々のこと。祖先や古い世代を指す。

「先祖」はやや格式ばった表現で、主に文章や伝統、歴史の話で使う。今現在の家族ではなく昔の世代に対して用いる。‘descendants’（子孫）と混同しないよう注意。

My forebears moved to this country many years ago.
