胎児とは、主要な体の部分ができあがった後から出生までのお腹の中の人間や動物の赤ちゃんのことです。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

医学的・科学的な文脈で使う言葉で、日常会話にはあまり登場しません。「胚」（はい）より発達した、妊娠8週目以降から出産前までを指します。
