Definition
Falhar de repente e de forma dramática após um sucesso inicial; também usado quando um motor para de funcionar abruptamente, especialmente em aviões.

Informal, comum em esportes, negócios ou fracassos pessoais. Pode ser literal para motores (especialmente jatos), mas normalmente é usado de forma metafórica para fracassos após um bom começo. 'Flameout' é o substantivo correspondente. Não se usa para fracasso gradual.
