लंबी, पतली दरारें, विशेषकर चट्टानों, दीवारों या त्वचा में होती हैं। आमतौर पर एक से अधिक दरारों के लिए प्रयोग होता है।

आमतौर पर वैज्ञानिक, चिकित्सा या भूगोल से जुड़े संदर्भों में उपयोग होता है। रोज़मर्रा की भाषा में 'दरार' ज़्यादा चलता है। 'Fissures' ज्यादा गंभीर या गहरी दरार के लिए बोला जाता है।
