Ayunar significa no comer ningún alimento durante un período de tiempo, a menudo por razones religiosas, de salud o médicas.

"Fasting" suele usarse en contextos religiosos (como el Ramadán o la Cuaresma), pero también por salud ("intermittent fasting"). Es incontable y va con 'during' ('during fasting'), 'period of fasting' o como gerundio ('Fasting can be difficult'). No significa comer poco, sino no comer nada durante un tiempo.
