消す
Definition
燃えているもの（例えば火、明かり、炎）を消すこと。また、希望や感情などを完全になくす意味でも使われる。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
「消す」は火や明かりなどを対象とするフォーマルな言い方。抽象的な「希望を消す」場合にも使うが、機械の電源を切る時は「消す」より「切る」を使うことが多い。
