何かや誰かを含めずに除外することを意味し、かたい文章や古い表現で使われます。

'excepting'は非常にフォーマルで日常会話ではほぼ使われません。主に法律文書や堅い文章で見られます。句の先頭や途中で、特にカンマの後に使われることが多いです。

All the students, excepting John, passed the test.

すべての生徒が、ジョン**を除いて**試験に合格した。

The museum is open daily, excepting Mondays.
