誰かの死後に、その人の功績や人格を公に称賛すること。生前の場合も、非常に高く評価して褒め称える意味がある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

非常にフォーマルな表現で、主に葬儀や追悼の場面で使います。「funeral」や「memorial」などの文脈でよく見られます。日常的なほめ言葉には使いません。
