금속, 나무, 돌 등 단단한 표면에 글자나 그림, 무늬를 새기는 것.

공식적이거나 전문적인 상황에서 주로 쓰임. 반지, 상패, 묘비 등에 '이름을 새기다', '기억에 새겨지다'와 같이 사용. 종이에 글씨를 쓸 때는 사용하지 않음.

They engrave names on wedding rings.
