শব্দটি মানসিক অবস্থার জন্য বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়, যেমন 'a feeling of emptiness'; শারীরিক শূন্যতায় আনুষ্ঠানিক বা সাহিত্যিক ভাষায় ব্যবহৃত হয়। দৈনন্দিন কথোপকথনে সাধারণত 'empty' বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়।
