ひさし

Definition

屋根の端が外壁より外に出ている部分で、雨から建物を守る役割がある部分。

常に複数形で使う。住宅、建築、または自然の話題で使われる。よく「ひさしの下で」や「ひさしに鳥が巣を作る」のように使う。「イブ（前夜）」と混同しないよう注意。

Rainwater ran off the eaves during the storm.

嵐のとき、雨水が**ひさし**から流れ落ちた。

Birds built their nests under the eaves.
