物事が徐々に数や量、力が減っていくこと。急激ではなく、ゆっくり少なくなる。

フォーマルや書き言葉でよく使われます。「numbers」「supplies」「hopes」「resources」などと一緒に使うことが多いです。急激ではなく、ゆっくり減少するイメージです。
