이미 좋지 않은 일이 있었을 때, 또 다른 나쁜 일이 일어날까 봐 불안하게 기다리는 것.

일상적으로 불안하거나 안 좋은 일이 연속될 것 같은 느낌을 표현할 때 사용한다. 주로 'waiting for the other shoe to drop'와 같이 쓰이며, 문자 그대로가 아니라 비유적이다.
