নদী, হ্রদ বা বন্দর থেকে পলি, বালি বা অন্য পদার্থ সরিয়ে জলপথ গভীর বা চলাচলের উপযোগী করার প্রক্রিয়া।

'খনন' শব্দটি সাধারণত পরিবেশগত, প্রযুক্তিগত ও শিল্পক্ষেত্রে ব্যবহৃত হয়, বিশেষত নদী বা বন্দরের ক্ষেত্রে। দৈনন্দিন কথোপকথনে কম ব্যবহৃত।
