Daha çok şiirsel ve edebi metinlerde geçer, günlük konuşmada nadirdir. En çok 'rüyasız uyku' ifadesinde kullanılır. Genellikle bir kişiyi tanımlamak için kullanılmaz; uyku kalitesinden çok rüya görmemek vurgulanır.
