主に布や衣類につく、汚れや油などによる黒ずみや汚れた部分。

現代日本語の日常会話ではあまり使われず、文学作品などで登場することが多いです。特に服や布につく土や油による黒ずみの状態を指します。「くすんだ」（dingy）と混同しないようにしましょう。
