Definition

強さや音、活動などがだんだん弱くなったり静かになったりすること。風や騒音、感情などによく使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

会話でよく使われ、嵐や風、騒音や感情などが自然と弱まる時に使います。「人が亡くなる」意味では使いません。「待つ」と一緒に使うことが多い。「Let the noise die down」＝「音が静まるまで待つ」など。

Examples

The rain finally died down after an hour.

1時間後に雨がようやく**おさまりました**。

Wait for the noise to die down before starting.

始める前に騒音が**おさまる**のを待ってください。

The wind will die down later tonight.
