時間の経過とともに物事の状態や質が悪くなること。

フォーマルな表現で、医療や技術、公式な場面でよく使われます。「deterioration in health」や「environmental deterioration」などの組み合わせが一般的です。「damage」（単発の損傷）や「decline」（より緩やかな減少）とは区別してください。

There has been a deterioration in air quality this year.
