Definition
Um coroner é uma autoridade pública que investiga certos tipos de morte, especialmente as repentinas, violentas ou sem explicação clara. Em alguns lugares, ele também determina oficialmente a causa da morte.

Usa-se principalmente em contextos jurídicos, médicos e jornalísticos. A função exata varia conforme o país ou a região: 'coroner' nem sempre é o mesmo que 'medical examiner', embora muita gente confunda.
