কিছু ঘটার পেছনে যে কারণ বা কারণ ও ফলের সম্পর্ক বোঝায়।

বিশেষভাবে একাডেমিক, আইনগত বা বৈজ্ঞানিক আলোচনায় ব্যবহৃত হয়। 'correlation' (সহসম্পর্ক) এর সাথে মিশিয়ে ফেলবেন না, কারণ এতে কারণ হওয়া বোঝানো হয়।
