Definition

ক্যালিওপ হল এমন একটি বাদ্যযন্ত্র যা জলীয় বাষ্প বা চাপে রাখা বাতাস ব্যবহার করে প্রচণ্ড জোরে ও আনন্দময় সুর সৃষ্টি করে, সাধারণত সার্কাস বা রিভারবোটের সঙ্গে দেখা যায়। এটি মাঝে মাঝে গ্রিক কাব্য-শিল্পের দেবী ক্যালিওপকেও বোঝাতে পারে।

সাধারণত 'calliope' বলতে সার্কাসের সেই উচ্চ শব্দওয়ালা বাদ্যযন্ত্রকে বোঝায়। গ্রিক মিউজ হিসেবে খুব কম ব্যবহৃত হয়। বিশেষভাবে শব্দটা খুব জোরে ও উজ্জ্বল সুরের জন্য পরিচিত।
