車掌車は貨物列車の最後尾につなげられる車両で、乗務員の作業や休憩のために使われました。現在は主に鉄道史や模型の中で見ることができます。

「車掌車」は特に北米の鉄道用語で、現代日本ではほぼ使われません。英語では冗談で「おしり」を指すこともあります。
