यह शब्द मुख्यतः शादी के संदर्भ में इस्तेमाल होता है। आम संयोजन हैं 'bride and groom', 'the bride wore white' और 'the bride walked down the aisle'। इसे 'wife' से न मिलाएँ, क्योंकि 'wife' शादी के बाद पत्नी के लिए सामान्य शब्द है।
