Definition

本当の姿や気持ちを隠して、見た目や印象を違って見せること。

やや硬い表現で、見かけや表情が本当の気持ちや状況を隠す時によく使う。「belie the fact」のような使い方も多い。

His calm voice belied his nervousness.
