손이나 머리의 움직임으로 사람을 가까이 오라고 신호하거나, 비유적으로 무엇인가를 유혹하거나 끌어들이는 의미도 있다.

다소 문학적이고 격식 있는 표현이다. 제스처 외에 비유적으로도 사용되며('the future beckons'), 급박하거나 시끄럽게 부를 때는 잘 쓰지 않는다.
