Descreve alguém ou algo em quem se confia, que se respeita e que tem poder ou direito de dar ordens ou tomar decisões. Também pode se referir a informações consideradas confiáveis e oficiais.

Usado de forma formal para pessoas com poder reconhecido ou fontes confiáveis ('an authoritative report'). Não confundir com 'authoritarian' (autoritário no sentido ditatorial). Comum em 'voz', 'fonte', 'resposta'.
