証拠がなくても、強く信じていると自信を持って言う意見や主張のことです。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
フォーマルな場や論文、法廷などでよく使われる言葉です。必ずしも証拠があるわけではなく、自信を持って述べる印象があります。'assumptions'（仮定）とは違うので注意。よく 'unsupported assertions' や 'assertions about' の形で使います。
