두 가지 상반되거나 예상 밖의 상황을 연결할 때 쓰는 접속사로, '비록 ~이지만'의 뜻을 가진다.

'비록' 또는 '하지만'은 글과 말에서 모두 사용 가능하다. 같은 문장에서 '하지만'과 중복 사용하지 않는다. 문장 앞부분이나 사이에 주로 온다.

Although it was raining, we went outside.

**비록** 비가 왔지만 우리는 밖에 나갔어요.

She smiled although she was tired.

그녀는 피곤했지만 **비록** 웃었다.

Although he is young, he is very calm.
