둘 이상의 행동, 상태를 번갈아 하거나 누군가 결석하면 대신하는 사람을 의미함.

반복적으로 교대하거나 대체 선수를 뜻함. 주로 스포츠, 공연에서 '대체 선수'로 쓰임. 'alternative'(다른 선택지)와 혼동하지 말 것.

The teacher alternates between fun and serious activities.
