人や物が病気や問題に苦しむこと。身体的な病だけでなく、一般的な困難にも使われる。

文語的な単語で、日常会話ではあまり使われません。'What ails you?'は「どうしたの？」という意味合い。肉体的な病気以外にも広い問題に使います。
