美学は、美しさや芸術、感性について研究し評価する学問です。また、何かが美しいと感じられる理由について考えることも含みます。

主に学術、美術、デザインの分野で使われます。たいていは単数扱いで使い、『the aesthetics of〜』で「〜の美的特徴」を表現します。アメリカ英語の形容詞 'esthetic' とは混同しないよう注意。
