物をやさしく、または何度も引っ張ること。感情を強く揺さぶる意味でも使われる。

服や袖などを軽く何度も引っ張るときによく使います。'tug at one's heartstrings'のように感情を強く動かす場合もあります。'pull'よりも優しいニュアンスです。
