歩いているときに何かにつまずいて、転びそうになるか転んでしまうこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

'on'や'over'の後によく使われ、何かにつまずいて転びそうになる場面。'fall down'とは異なり、必ずしも倒れるとは限りません。'stumble'と混同しやすいですが、こちらは足をひっかけるニュアンス。
