他の人より遅く進み、後ろにいること。歩く場合や何かの達成で遅れをとる場合に使う。

日常会話でよく使う。歩く場合も成績や技術の遅れにも使える。'trail behind someone'は「人に遅れる」という意味で使う。'fall behind' よりは距離感が少し弱い。
