"the nod"とは、通常はうなずくことで、承認、同意、または許可を示すジェスチャーです。時には誰かの支持や了承を得る意味にもなります。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
通常はカジュアルな表現で、静かな同意や承認を示します。スポーツやエンタメでは“get the nod”は選ばれる、という意味。'give the nod'（許可する）、'get the nod'（承認・選出される）などで使う。必ずしも直訳の意味ではない。
