Prédios antigos ou simples em que muitas famílias vivem em espaços pequenos e apinhados, normalmente em cidades. Estes edifícios normalmente têm más condições de habitação.

Normalmente refere-se a habitações antigas e precárias nas cidades, sobretudo nos séculos XIX e XX. Não utiliza para apartamentos modernos. Frases comuns: 'tenement building', 'tenement housing'.
