Esta expresión es informal y algo crítica. Se usa mucho al hablar de organizaciones o personas que quieren evitar verdades incómodas. Va muy unida a 'try to sweep it under the carpet.' Parecida a 'encubrir', pero más visual. No se usa para limpiar literalmente.
