발을 헛디뎌 넘어질 뻔하거나 말 또는 행동에서 작은 실수를 한 것을 말합니다.

Usage Notes (Korean)

신체적으로 균형을 잃을 때('stumbled over a rock')나 말을 더듬을 때('stumbled over his words') 모두 사용됩니다. 실제로 넘어지는 것보다는 금방 다시 일어나는 느낌입니다.
