試合の終盤で相手に得点や勝利のチャンスを与えないために、できるだけ多くの時間を使い切ること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

スポーツ（サッカーやバスケットボールなど）で多用される表現。日常会話ではほとんど使わない。'run out the clock' も同じ意味。
