주로 경고, 경찰 보고, 뉴스 등에서 밤에 몰래 다니는 침입자들을 설명할 때 사용됩니다. 복수형이 일반적이고 약간 격식적인 표현입니다. 관용구로 'report prowlers', 'watch out for prowlers' 등이 있습니다. 동물에겐 거의 쓰지 않습니다.
